Well, it has been a roller coaster ride for the potato market this week. There may be some relief because the weather has cooled and growers are going heavily into storage. This may reduce the pressure on some packing operations and allow the market to settle. Guess we will know on Monday. We actually had some frost in some locations this week. While it wasn’t cold enough to do any damage it is a warning that we need to get our crops harvested and in storage. Weather permitting we will complete harvest around the 20th of October.
The onion market appears to have settled somewhat and there doesn’t seem to be any rain in the forecast until mid next week and then only 30%. If we get through next week it appears that we may be in the clear. We should have all the onions undercover by the 10th of October if the weather holds. The crop looks very nice but yields might be down some. We will keep you updated.
